BlueAnt Wireless was founded in 2003 and has been making wireless products ever since. The BlueAnt Pump are the toughest Bluetooth earbuds on the planet. They are rated IP67, meaning they can be submerged for up 30 minutes in 1 meter of water (or mud if you are so inclined) and will resist dirt and dust ingression. Yes, you can swim with them on if you keep your head mostly out of the water; the Bluetooth signal doesn’t travel through water.

Designed to fit over the ears like your Grandpa’s hearing aids, the Pump stay in place during even the most extreme activities. The Pump come with 7 pairs of earbud covers:

  • 2 sets of small silicon earbuds
  • 2 sets of medium silicon earbuds
  • 2 sets of large silicon earbuds
  • 1 set of Comply foam tips

Two different pairs of ear stabilizers are also included. With all these options, you will find a good fit. Users report the Pump are light and comfortable except for the ear stabilizers which poke and rub your ears. The stabilizers are optional, and some users elect to simply remove them. The cord connecting the two earbuds is semi-rigid; it stays in place and does not bounce around on the back of your neck. A cable clamp is included that facilitates lengthening or shortening the cord as desired.

Style? The Pump are made for tough guys who listen to music while doing tough things. In other words they are hands down the ugliest earbuds I have ever seen, but I’m not telling them that; they might kick my butt!

The BlueAnt Pump come in ugly black/blue, uglier blue/white, and ugliest…okay “ugly” doesn’t do the clear/green justice. It’s just hideous.  If you buy the clear/green, please contact me and tell me about yourself; you must be an extremely interesting person!

Controls

On the right earpiece (while wearing the pump), there are three buttons. The play button is in the middle, and the volume up and volume down buttons are just above and below it.

The buttons are raised, solid, and give a nice click feedback when pressed.

Features

The BlueAnt pump are coated with Teflon and Kevlar to achieve their impressive IP67 waterproof rating.
BlueAnt claims the Pump have “Energize HD Audio,” a technology that creates “an audiophile-grade music experience that cannot be matched by wireless rivals.” Back in the real world, users report the Pump sound fantastic, but they cannot be compared to audiophile grade anything.

BlueAnt also claim a best-in-class wireless range of 100 feet, but users report a more modest although still very impressive range of 45-50 feet.

Performance

BlueAnt claims a full battery will support 8 hours of continuous use, and most users report getting around 6-7 hours on each charge. The Pump will standby for 2 weeks and takes about 2 hours to fully charge when empty.

Overall users are very happy with the music playback quality. The bass is powerful (but perhaps over-emphasized), and the mids and highs are clear and sharp. The small, medium, or large silicon earbud covers will make a tight seal in your inner ear blocking out all external sound. The Comply foam covers let in external sounds, so you have the option of blocking everything out or being able to hear your surroundings.

Phone calls are crisp and clear on both ends, but the microphone does not have any noise cancelation; external noises will be transmitted to your caller.

BlueAnt Pump Green

This is hands down the ugliest product I have ever seen!
